The Security Building had been condemned by the City of St. Louis because of numerous code violations. In 2003, Lawrence Group purchased the building for its headquarters and began the restoration process, saving this historic gem from becoming another parking lot.
Through extensive research we discovered that the signature element, the dome over the entry lobby, was originally glass. We restored the upper portion of the dome and restored the original design intent of bringing daylight into the first floor lobby. We also used the original drawings, completed in 1890, to restore the exterior storefronts.
The Security Building is the first historic building in Missouri to receive LEED™ Silver Certification.
