George Washington Carver Museum & Cultural Center and Carver Branch Library
Austin, Texas
Adjacent culturally historic buildings were expanded and renovated in this project. The museum & center occupied a small, 1926 building. We served as museum programming and design consultant to Carter Design Associates for a new 25,000 square foot facility. It includes core and traveling exhibition galleries; collection and conservation space; a community theater; and educational space. It is designed to LEED® standards.
The library was built in 1979. We served as design architect and architect of record (as a consultant) for the 6,500 square foot expansion. It provides improved space for public programs, adding room for community meetings; separate adult, children’s & youth services; computer technology; and staff support spaces.
