SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital

Jefferson City, MO

Established in 1905, the Franciscan Sisters of Mary had a bold vision to bring healthcare to their local community, and today that bold vision has grown to the expansion of a new $200 million dollar replacement hospital. As the first health system to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, SSM worked closely with the team to design a facility focused on patient and staff flow, providing exceptional quality, improving outcomes and showcasing their leadership in innovation.

The new hospital is nestled on a wooded site with spectacular views. It is 40 percent larger than the existing facility and includes 172 private state-of-the-art patient rooms. The medical office buildings and other health-related complementary facilities such as cardiology and open-heart surgery units, maternal and child care center are also included in this new campus for St. Mary’s.

Every design decision that was made had a focus on both the patient perspective and the core mission of SSM. Lawrence Group was the lead architect providing local management and documentation as well as the lead interior designer providing the vision and implementation of the interior. Simple elegance captures the spirit of the interior with a timeless palette, natural materials and a focus on nature. The project team delivered the project under budget and two months ahead of schedule.
