Manhattan Center Productions
New York, NY
Located on the ground floor of the New Yorker Hotel, this project involved a complete gut renovation of the existing Manhattan Center television broadcast facility including the conversion of the grand ballroom into the production studio. The Lawrence Group was charged with designing a facility that would be an icon as well as a premier working space in the TV industry.
The design knits the Production Studio, Production Control Room, and auxiliary production facilities beneath a newly constructed mezzanine floor in order to maximize available space while talent facilities including dressing, wardrobe, and green rooms reside above. The studio audience experience begins in a sleek entry sequence and holding area and ends with a bird’s eye view of the Production Studio from atop an elevated entrance. The design also effectively integrated the New Yorker Hotel’s circulation and access requirements while providing Gallery space for the display of historic New Yorker Hotel artifacts.
