Ross Global Academy, The Tweed Courthouse

New York, NY

Ross Global Academy Charter School (RGA) is an innovative New York City Public Charter School which opened in September 2006 with 160 students in grades K, 1, 5 and 6. The existing building provided grand spaces that were required to be sub divided to meet class sizes, while maintaining the character and quality of the existing rooms. By virtue of the impossibility of literally and completely dividing any of the rooms it was necessary to create a “learning loft” type of an environment using furniture and cabinetry that would be free standing from walls and ceilings.

In addition to the “cabinet work” teaching walls, smaller defined spaces such as reading, learning, group and project areas were developed. There was also a cultural/humanities graphics program that was implemented using screen print canvases and art productions.
