Christie’s New York
New York, NY
After completing an extensive master planning study of the 250,000 sf of space occupied by Christie’s New York office, Lawrence Group embarked on the planning of the primary operational floors located in Rockefeller Center. Lawrence Group began design with a fundamental directive, laid down by the CEO of Christie’s, Stephen Murphy: provide a brighter, more open and visually connected environment.
Under this directive, Lawrence Group developed a planning system allowing the various departments and programmatic areas to be distinct but less “cloistered.” Floors are opened up to create long vistas so navigation becomes more understandable and clear. Primary circulation ways are marked by a change in flooring and a distinct change in ceiling material and height. Workspace has been improved by incorporating enhanced ergonomics, efficient storage strategies, and more defined and convenient resource libraries. Finally, access to natural light has been improved by increasing ceiling heights at perimeter offices and glass fronts have been provided at all private offices to allow the passage of natural light. In order for all departments to remain in full operation without disruption, this project is being implemented as a phased delivery.
