Located at The Cheshire, an iconic St. Louis landmark built in the mid 1900s, Basso needed to have a distinct identity from its upstairs restaurant neighbor. This casual gastro pub focuses largely on craft beers, wood-fired pizza and has an open kitchen.
Lawrence Group’s design solution combined modern and historic elements to create a warm, intimate experience with multiple seating vignettes. Modern gas lantern fixtures line the wall. Old-style, exposed filament light bulbs contrast with the latest LED fixtures. Over the hand-polished zinc bar is an elegant raw steel and iron ribcage bolted together to mount flat screens. The overall design brings together a unique experience and refreshes a St. Louis landmark.
