City of Clayton

Police Headquarters and Municipal Facility

Overview

Challenge

The City of Clayton selected Lawrence Group to help them convert a 1950s six-story office structure into a new public safety and municipal facility. The project also needed to reflect the City’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Solution

Maintaining the Federalist architectural style of the original construction, the renovated structure provides new Police facilities including patrol, investigation, administration, evidence, lab, records, and gym/locker spaces. The municipal program includes a municipal court, secure vertical circulation and lobbies, and support functions on three full floors. An overhaul of the existing adjacent three-level parking structure provides off-street police and tenant parking and the largest municipal solar array in Missouri. Through the use of creative sustainable strategies in the design, construction and on-going operations and maintenance, the project received LEED™ Platinum Certification.
