City of Olivette Parks Master Plan

Overview

Challenge

The City of Olivette wanted guidance on a 10-year plan for the renovation and development of their 120-acre parks, trails and facilities through the development of a comprehensive parks master plan. Community support and involvement were key elements to the success of the project.

Solution

Lawrence Group’s team evaluated existing facilities, parkland, trails and open space before lending recommendations on future park renovations — developing ideas that were both sustainable and financially responsible. The team also helped identify associated costs for the development and construction of new and renovated facilities.

An all-inclusive public engagement process included focus groups from across the city—Olivette staff, parks and planning board, city council, schools, clubs, etc. An online survey attracted 400 responses, and the team held two public meetings: an open house to gather resident’s suggestions and thoughts on what should be in the parks, followed later by a public design concept review.
