City of Georgetown Municipal Court

Municipal Court, Council Chambers and Office Building

Overview

Challenge

The City of Georgetown owned an existing pre-engineered building intended to be expanded to incorporate the city’s new municipal courtroom and supplemental services, including offices, conference rooms and a multi-functional lobby. The municipal courtroom also needed to serve as the city’s council chambers. The existing, two-story pre-engineered building contained essential municipal equipment that needed to remain operational throughout the entirety of the project as well.

Solution

The Municipal Court, Council Chambers & Office building includes municipal offices on Levels 1 and 2 of the west wing and a combined municipal courtroom and council chambers, lobby, jury/council conference rooms on Level 1 of the east wing.

In order to preserve the charm and history of the area, yet innovate for the future by creating community space for residents and visitors, the City Hall and Municipal Court buildings share a common landscaped area. The project supports the council’s vision statement for the city: “Georgetown: A caring community honoring our past and innovating for the future.”
