Challenge
Located in the heart of east Austin at one of Austin’s first commuter rail stops, PeopleFund was the first of three nonprofits to complete construction on land donated as part of a Transit-oriented Development. PeopleFund challenged Lawrence Group to create an open, flexible space for their new home on a tight budget.
Solution
For the new two-story building, Lawrence Group used off-the-shelf materials in a creative way to offer permanence, durability and great value for PeopleFund. The first floor contains PeopleFund’s offices with open, flexible spaces and minimal partitions. The second floor offers future expansion and community activity spaces. The LEED Gold project includes metal roofing to harvest rain water and a shared landscaped courtyard. The large cantilever provides shade for the first level window wall as well as a covered gathering area for inclement weather.
