Challenge

The new SSM Health St. Mary’s Replacement Hospital needed to support staff and physicians while exceeding expectations for safety, compassion and innovation — and providing an exceptional patient experience along the way. Lawrence Group created an environment that promotes the healing of body, mind and spirit within a hospital that blends nature and simple elegance with modern medical technology and exceptional service.

Solution

During pre-planning, the team conducted a series of workshops and visioning sessions with physicians, staff and community members. These defined the vision, strategies and guiding principles along with programming and design requirements. The team mapped existing departmental processes to understand the existing patient experience and identify process gaps, waste and pain points. The functional program and design were refined during staff training exercises in full-size patient mock-up rooms. A long history of working together and a commitment to the project’s vision helped the team complete the project under budget and two months ahead schedule.
