Overview

Challenge

At the turn of the century, St. Louis Union Station became one of the largest passenger rail terminals in the world. To honor its history and add an upscale dining option to the redevelopment, Lodging Hospitality Management collaborated with Lawrence Group to create an attention-grabbing dining experience to appeal to a range of diners. Located at the aquarium entrance, this experience would need to transition from family-friendly lunch to evening dates to late night cocktails.

Solution

The Train Shed dining experience features era-inspired materials, ornate patterns and custom built-in components that complement the building’s original concrete floors and waffle slab ceiling. Modern touches include patron-friendly charging capabilities and a large ribbon media panel spanning the length of the bar.

Seating options of various heights, sizes and styles accommodate a variety of diners including tufted wrap-around booths, a community style table, bar seating and two private dining rooms. Customizable lighting, acoustics and operable glass partitions allow the restaurant to transition from casual lunches to upscale dining. Paired with the restaurant’s crafted cocktails and contemporary menu, this modern-meets-old-world design offers a fine dining experience unique to St. Louis Union Station.

Working with Lawrence Group is always a fun and lively experience; they are not only easy to work with and accommodating but they are responsive to the crazy deadlines we throw at them. Even though we expect fast turnarounds, the level of detail and thoroughness in the designs are never rushed.
