Travis County Commissioners’ Courtroom & Offices

Originally designed for large open banking halls, with 30-degree parallelogram structural bays, Lawrence Group needed to re-envision this space to accommodate Travis County’s new commissioners’ courtroom and multi-function public spaces, while maintaining the distinctive building geometries. The existing building also had large expanses of curtain wall glass creating potential security issues.

To convert this former bank into the home of Travis County Government, Lawrence Group inserted an architectural canopy over the seating area, which created appropriate ceiling heights for the audience and improved security. The program also includes the public lobby known as the “Hall of Government,” multi-function rooms with moveable walls for flexibility, multiple offices and hoteling suites.
