The new SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital was named Project of the Year by the St. Louis Business Journal’s 2021 Building St. Louis Awards.
The $550 million replacement hospital and academic medical facility was designed to support SSM Health’s mission and values including excellence, compassion, community, respect and stewardship.
“We make sure that those guiding principles that were set out in the beginning stay out in front during the entire process when we’re designing the building and on through construction and when they occupy the building … if you have the same values, then everyone is moving in the same direction,” said Mike Schnaare, president of Lawrence Group.
“The notion of community was important for that group as a whole, to make sure that whatever we ultimately developed and designed was a reflection of the community that they serve and the diversity of the community that they serve,” said Schnaare.
The project opened within budget and on schedule on Sept 1, 2020. Lawrence Group provided architecture, interior design and landscape architecture services for the new hospital.
The Building St. Louis Awards celebrate commercial real estate projects completed in the prior year that had the biggest impact on the region through investment, jobs created and changes to the surrounding area.
